Temperatures are falling and the days are getting shorter which means it’s the season to get preventative and build up your immune health with the power of plants. Insert this Mango Turmeric Immune smoothie. Or what I like to call, liquid sunshine!
This vibrant, golden smoothie is full of vitamins A,C,E, fiber and potassium. It provides all the benefits of turmeric without the taste, while boosting your vitamin C intake. I personally love this bright orange rhizome. However, I know it’s not everyone’s favorite.
Admittedly, when I’m feeling under the weather, I will guzzle the most unpleasant drinks. I do enjoy exploring alternative and herbal remedies. However, make no mistake, boosting your immune system doesn’t have to be a cringe worthy endeavor. Which is why I love this smoothie. Blissfully sip away, enjoying all the benefits of vitamin C and turmeric but without the spiciness.
Wellness can quickly start to feel super complicated and inaccessible. Superfoods, expensive juices and tonics. It’s easy to forget that everyday foods like oranges and mangoes are super for us as well! This sweet Mango Turmeric Immune Smoothie contains simple ingredients and one easy step!
Why these ingredients?
Mango: Contains vitamin A, E and vitamin C – a powerful antioxidant that promotes skin health and immune function.* In addition, this tropical fruit is a good source of vitamin B6, which plays an important role in metabolism. I like to use frozen mango in this recipe which chills the smoothie without ice.
Orange: Oranges are a juicy source of the antioxidant vitamin C. Plus, they also contain folate, potassium, calcium and of course fiber. I use a large, sweet navel orange in this recipe. (Tip: don’t fear the white rind it’s full of beneficial bioflavonoids).
Banana: Bananas make smoothies creamy and provide natural sweetness and energy. This staple fruit is full of potassium, iron, and is beneficial for blood sugar regulation. Opt for ripe, spotty bananas in smoothies as they are sweeter and contain more antioxidants as well!
Turmeric: Turmeric is known for its antioxidant compounds. These support a healthy inflammation response.* You can purchase turmeric fresh or as a powder in the spice aisle. Additionally, I enjoy using MegaFood Daily Turmeric Nutrient Booster Powder™. Read more about the benefits of turmeric here.
Almond milk: Contains vitamin E and calcium. Some store bought brands are fortified with vitamin D and B vitamins as well. Feel free to substitute any plant milk you prefer like coconut, hemp or oat milk.
Pepper: You may be thinking “why on earth would I put pepper in my mango smoothie!?” I promise just a tiny pinch goes a long way and you won’t taste it. Black pepper helps support the absorption of curcumin (the active substance in turmeric) that can otherwise be hard for the body to assimilate. So, whenever you are eating or supplementing with turmeric, be sure to add black pepper or check the label for black pepper for this reason.
MegaFood Daily C-Protect Nutrient Booster Powder: This additional booster is the star of the show and combines FoodState® vitamin C with farm-fresh super fruits, including organic blueberries, organic cranberries, and organic whole oranges, for a powerful delivery of phytonutrients.*
One of my favorite things about smoothies is your really can’t go wrong. Don’t have mango? Substitute Pineapple. No orange? Throw in some strawberries. They are also an excellent source of vitamin C too! The banana adds a crucial sweetness and creaminess. However, you can add dates instead if you are super averse to bananas.
I am loving the addition of MegaFood Daily C-Protect Nutrient Booster Powder to this smoothie as it provides your body with the nourishment it needs to support your natural immune defenses.* It also contains astragalus and organic schisandra berry. These herbs are traditionally used for their immune-supportive properties*. This powder is great alongside a variety of other immune boosting foods. That said, if you are in a pinch, I love that this blend can be stirred into water or your favorite juice too.
